The use of art has long been identified as a means to reduce stress and anxiety. Ryan Somauroo, Director explains “simple craft activities can enhance the lives of elderly people in residential care homes. Activities coordinators often contribute to the elderly person’s experience of care. They also show a different side of the home to both residents and visitors, contradicting the image of elderly people sitting apathetically in front of a television set. Elderly people may feel more able to confide in a person not directly involved in their care, and also often find it easier to chat with fellow residents while their hands are engaged in craft work. We at Bernash pride ourselves on the care we deliver to all the residents.”
